You Cannot Smoke in Places Like This

Daintily twirling about
you wore your princess proud.
“Mommy, Mommy watch!” you’d shout
but there was no one around.
So, you danced alone; you wept aloud
and you wore your princess out.

Decked in black and doubt
you rocked about the concert crowd
with your music blaring loud
“Friend, friend hear me!” you’d shout
but through your dense smokers cloud
there was no one to be found.
So, you sang alone; you sang aloud
and you wore your voice out.

Your reality, dreams met their end
when, in sorrow, your ashes we sent
scattering into the racing wind
“You need me? Now?” you lament
as you make your final descent.
You rest alone; for alone you went
but our hearts are forever indented
for life with you was time well spent.
