On Making Sincere Apologies

Sorry does not correct mistakes,
does not undo or replace regret,
not pain, not sorrow, not confusion.
It does not make shame disappear
and brings no immediate change
to the way one feels. It takes time.
It does not mean any more than
the actions it is used to make up for.
It is not a just word to be expressed
but an action to show, in earnest,
the realization of what wrong was done,
intent to show one meant no harm.
It is not retribution which to be won,
but it is, when made in sincere effort,
a most beautiful gesture to behold
when a heart in love admits its fault
and offer humbly its sincerest apology
and the hardened heart can forgive.
