The Beauty I Once Knew

Watching this twisted scene unfold,
seeing your hand in his, I know
you’re still holding tight to your dreams,
singing him songs of lingering memories.

You were in love, desperately in love
but it was slow and fading to mystery.
And the Spring season had you cornered-
watching from afar your love, love another.

Watching her dance wild as fire
with her beautiful, deceitful lover
until she finally discovered
her love was also courted by another.

And when death washed that lively spirit out,
to your door once more she drudged,
but you were not willing; you grew wise-
brighter than the beauty she fooled before.
