Not a thing
is owed
but
every word
left unsaid
allows
the space between
to grow.

When Words Fail

Carry the colors of pain at heart
as it too was once hardened
by the inconsistency of words
the sanctity of syllables
and of vows ever changing
at each slip of each tongue.

Each utterance defining
a resignation of true meaning.
Still applicable but deadly,
poisoning the ears of the innocent
until they too grow numb-
affected, infected and dumb

by the happiness it denotates,
but by connotation stands
to destroy the impressionable minds
by way of impressionable hearts.
Until both are irreparably damaged
by loss of the sanctity of a word.
